FairFX prepaid money card - personal experience

I wanted to relay to visitors my experience of using the FairFX prepaid MaserCard. You can load up your card at any time from your bank account or by text message in either EUROS or US$. I chose the EURO option...

It was purchased mainly for a trip to Sri Lanka, where it was accepted wherever MaterCard was. Even when withdrawing from an ATM, it only cost EUR 1.50 each time and I have now been using it for over 4 months for all sorts of things including shopping in the UK, online purchases and regular payments. I do not have a credit card so this has been a great replacement.

I am just about to embark on a two week trip to Australia and you guessed it, I have topped up my card in favour of exchanging all of my money into Australian Dollars... It is much better value than foreign exchange through your bank or at the airport and the charges for using as a credit/debit card are zero and again only EUR 1.50 for withdrawing from and ATM.

I would heartliy recommend using pre-paid cards and although FairFx was right for me, there are many other options including top up cards for people without bank accounts. Follow this link for a selection of som of the best http://www.sendmoneyhome.org/Content/ppcards.html
